In the cd recording of this play, Aoki does an excellent job portraying emotion and atmosphere not only with her play and reading itself, but with the well timed jazz music in the background. Aoki is able to really bring the listener into her life and they will feel like they really know her. Aside from just setting up atmosphere, she is great at differentiating characters in the play. Even though she does the voice of every character, she is able to add different accents and her colloquial language makes everyone stick out. For example, Her boyfriend Kali from the story is portrayed as being a cool teenager with a calm attitude towards most things, while Smoke is similiar, but he is able to get jealous and irate fairly easily. She is also good at portraying the girls at her new school. You can see obvious personality differences between the characters just through listening. All in all the cd version of the play was very well done, and the jazz music added another completely new layer to the play.
